Have you ever wondered, while visiting a church or a museum, how the painters of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance managed to paint on wooden tables with such bright and lively colors as enamels? Some of those pigments were actually those used for the frescoes only that, thanks to their mixture with natural substances such as egg, they remained fixed on the supports for centuries, keeping their chromatic characteristics unaltered.
During the course, lasting a weekend, we will learn how to make a painting on wood through the main phases: the preparation of the wood with the various layers of plaster and glue, the choice of the subject to be reproduced, its transfer onto the surface to be painted , the application of the Armenian bole on the background, the gilding with gold leaf and the application of pigments mixed with egg red.
Each substance and each shade of color will be carefully prepared during the lesson by the students who, at the end of the course, will be able to take home a small treasure of ancient painting.
